Jordyn Tyson’s NFL journey isn’t starting as planned. The New Orleans Saints receiver, drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, faces a potential two-month absence due to a hamstring injury sustained in training camp. This was reported by NFL Network.
The 22-year-old Arizona State alum was selected eighth overall by the Saints this past April. He suffered his injury during a joint practice session with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Saints head coach Kellen Moore, in his second season, mentioned a day after the injury occurred that Tyson could miss the season’s start. With the current timeline, Tyson might be out for at least five games.
Reports also surfaced that Tyson sought multiple medical opinions regarding his injury. Fans expressed concern online about the duration of his absence.
“A two-month break implies a return near Week 6 when the Saints face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium,” Moore stated.
Following that, the Saints will participate in a game in Paris as part of the NFL’s International Games. Tyson had a history of hamstring issues during his time with the Sun Devils, but Moore dismissed comparisons to his past health concerns.
Moore elaborated on ESPN: “In a scenario where a player’s foot slips and they get pushed, such injuries aren’t connected to Jordyn’s past. This diagnosis could apply to any player in his situation.”
Before this injury, Tyson consistently practiced during training camp and was adapting well to his new team. Moore praised Tyson’s performance, acknowledging how injuries can arise unexpectedly in preseason.
“He’s played exceptional football,” Moore commented. “Such instances are unfortunately part of preseason. We’ve had a few players face similar situations, but we’ll work through it. He’ll recover and return strong.”
Moore aims to sustain the momentum the Saints found in the latter half of last season. Their success was partly due to Tyler Shough, a second-round selection last year, who was confirmed as the starting quarterback.
Shough, having benefited from a full offseason as a starting quarter, received additional offensive support, including Tyson. Tyson gained attention from NFL scouts after a standout 1,101-yard season in 2024. He encountered hamstring issues in 2025, limiting him to nine games. Despite this, he managed 61 receptions for 711 yards and scored eight touchdowns.
The Saints also secured key players, extending top receiver Chris Olave’s contract before the season and adding Travis Etienne Jr. on a four-year, $48 million deal. Alvin Kamara also returns, enhancing their backfield strength.
Tyson now prioritizes his recovery as the Saints eagerly await the return of their first-round pick ahead of the regular season.
