Karen Read, a former financial analyst and college professor from Massachusetts, attracted media attention in early 2022 due to a tragic event involving her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, a Boston police officer.
In January 2022, O’Keefe was killed, and Read was indicted for murder charges in June of the same year. She pleaded not guilty to these charges. The accusations against her included ramming into O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV following a drunken argument and leaving him to perish in a snowstorm.
Her legal defense team for the trial scheduled in April 2024 involves prominent figures. Alan Jackson, recognized for his role in Kevin Spacey’s acquittal in 2019 on sexual assault charges, is among the lawyers representing Read. The initial trial concluded with a hung jury.
Read faces multiple charges concerning O’Keefe’s death. These include second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a deadly accident. Throughout, Read has consistently insisted on her innocence.
