Kenmore Air Floatplane Emergency Landing and Fire Injures Multiple Passengers

Multiple individuals suffered injuries on Thursday following an emergency landing by a Kenmore Air floatplane on the coast of Washington. After the landing, the plane caught fire, triggering an extensive rescue mission.

The U.S. Coast Guard received notification around 5:25 p.m. local time of the Kenmore Air seaplane making an emergency landing in North Beach Shallow Bay, near Sucia Island. The aircraft reportedly caught fire post-landing.

According to authorities, all 10 passengers along with the pilot were accounted for. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office reported a range of injuries including head trauma, broken bones, and lacerations.

Seaplane Incident

A Kenmore Air floatplane experienced a fire after its emergency landing in North Beach Shallow Bay. Multiple injuries were reported among those aboard. The airline confirmed that four passengers were transported to local hospitals, with one individual in critical condition. No fatalities have been reported thus far.

The plane in question, a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, was operating close to Sucia Island and had taken off from Seattle’s Lake Union, destined for Roche Harbor Marina on San Juan Island.

A spokesperson from Kenmore Air mentioned that traveling from Lake Union to the San Juan Islands is a common route for their flights.

Rescue Response

Several agencies, including the U.S. Navy, responded to the incident with boats and emergency teams. Ambulance helicopters transported injured passengers to medical facilities. Fire and rescue teams from Orcas Island, Lopez Island, and San Juan Island, along with San Juan County Parks, assisted in the operation.
