Florida’s Democratic Primaries Yield Surprises
Oliver Gilbert emerged victorious in the Democratic primary for Florida’s 24th Congressional District, a stronghold for the party. In another significant development, Angie Nixon secured an unexpected win over Alex Vindman in the Democratic primary for the Senate, positioning herself to contest against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody. Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, gained 54% of the vote with most ballots counted.
Eliott Rodriguez, a former newscaster, won the Democratic primary for Florida’s 27th Congressional District and faces GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar in the general election. In the race for Florida governor, David Jolly secured the Democratic nomination, setting up a confrontation with Republican Byron Donalds, who benefited from a Trump endorsement and substantial campaign funding.

Scott Singer clinched the Republican primary in Florida’s 25th Congressional District, preparing to face Jared Moskowitz, the Democratic incumbent. In the 19th Congressional District, Jim Schwartzel, a local talk radio owner, outlasted competitors including Catalina Lauf, a candidate previously endorsed by Trump.
Randy Fine retained his position in the 6th Congressional District. Ryan Elijah, a former journalist, defeated Rep. Cory Mills to claim the GOP nomination in the 7th District.
