Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka celebrated a hard-fought victory over the Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova during the women’s singles quarter-final at the US Open in New York. The match took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Sabalenka’s performance was critical to her pursuit of a third consecutive US Open championship. She managed to prevail over Noskova with a final score of 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7). The match concluded with Sabalenka clinching victory using a second-serve ace, which confirmed her advancement to the semifinals for the sixth consecutive year.
Maintaining her position at the top of the rankings was crucial for Sabalenka, and this win was necessary to sustain her No. 1 ranking. She is set to compete against either No. 3 Jessica Pegula or No. 26 Emma Navarro in the upcoming semifinals scheduled for Thursday.
The match was equally significant for Noskova, who is seeded No. 6 and previously won her maiden major title at Wimbledon. She was close to achieving a rare accomplishment of reaching the final four on both grass and hardcourt in the same year. The last woman to do so was Serena Williams in 2016.
