Late-night hosts Seth Meyers and John Oliver recently shared their views on fellow host Jimmy Kimmel’s impact on former President Donald Trump. Joining Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, they expressed appreciation for Kimmel, referring to him as a ‘bulletproof vest’ regarding Trump.
John Oliver explained that Kimmel is often mentioned during Q&A sessions at his stand-up shows with Meyers. “When asked about being disliked by Trump, we say as long as Kimmel’s on air, we’re okay,” said Oliver.
Seth Meyers chimed in, stating, “You draw all the ire,” while discussing the dynamics with Trump. Oliver added, “We fully back you, like a bulletproof vest.”
The hosts speculated on why Kimmel receives most of Trump’s attention. Meyers jokingly suggested that despite Kimmel’s dislike for Trump, the President might respect Kimmel’s friendships and lifestyle.
Kimmel pointed out Trump’s indifference towards Jon Stewart, but noted Trump’s occasional displeasure with Meyers. Kimmel speculated that Trump primarily watches major networks and doesn’t have access to Oliver’s HBO show.
“He doesn’t have Comedy Central. Most people don’t know where to find that,” said Kimmel.
During a conversation with Meyers, Kimmel guessed that Trump’s late-night tweeting habit means Meyers’ show air time is past Trump’s bedtime. Meyers appreciated any attention his show garners from Trump, despite disliking the former President’s comments.
When questioned by Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle criticized the hosts. Comments included derogatory references to Meyers, labeling him “unfunny” and afflicted with “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
The White House described Oliver as “a pathetic moron with a poorly rated TV show,” and repeated their negative view of Kimmel, labeling him a “no-talent loser.”
