The popular progressive podcast ‘Pod Save America,’ run by former Obama staff members, faced criticism after a social media clip critical of controversial streamer Hasan Piker was deleted. The podcast initially welcomed MSNBC’s Chris Hayes to discuss Democratic politics, addressing Piker’s influence on Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign.
Piker has been under scrutiny for past remarks, including blaming America for the 9/11 attacks and praising dictators like Mao Zedong and Fidel Castro. These comments have led Democrats to question his impact on general elections despite his progressive support.
Chris Hayes criticized Piker’s role in campaigns, stating, “I don’t think it makes a ton of sense in a general election, frankly, to campaign with Hasan Piker.” He added that Piker must learn that “with great power comes great responsibility,” suggesting Piker needs to monitor his statements closely.
Former Biden aide Michael LaRosa noticed the clip’s removal from social media, prompting criticism from various figures, including gun control activist Shannon Watts. LaRosa accused ‘Pod Save America’ of removing a clip that highlighted frank discussions about Piker as a liability to El-Sayed’s campaign. He noted the clip was reposted in an extended format after backlash.
Crooked Media did not immediately comment on the situation. Julian Epstein, a former legal counsel and Clinton campaign worker, expressed support for the Republican candidate opposing El-Sayed, citing Piker’s controversial influence as a reason for his stance.
‘Pod Save America’ previously drew Biden allies’ ire by suggesting President Joe Biden should step aside for the 2024 election, challenging notions about his mental health with claims about misleading video clips.
