On Monday, Lionel Richie was admitted to a hospital in St. Louis. This followed a concert at The Muny in Forest Park over the weekend. Details about the reasons for his hospitalization remain unclear.
Richie, aged 77, has faced various health issues this summer, leading to the cancellation of several performances. In July, he communicated with fans online, acknowledging their support and assuring them of his recovery. ‘Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,’ he wrote. ‘I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.’
He had previously postponed concerts due to feeling ‘dizzy’ during his tour opener in Minnesota.
The United Center announced cancellations of planned shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio. They cited doctor’s advice for Richie to rest and regain his health. An Instagram statement mentioned Richie’s disappointment in postponing the shows and his eagerness to return to the stage.
Richie’s health concerns extend back to late June when the St. Paul Fire Department confirmed that a person was taken from the Grand Casino Arena to a hospital by EMS services. During a concert in St. Paul, Richie paused his performance of ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ when he felt lightheaded. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that Richie sat down before informing the crowd about his condition.
Richie, also known for his role as an ‘American Idol’ judge, has served for nine seasons on the show.
