The juror whose dissent led to a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case has secured legal representation. Michael P. Desronvil, the holdout juror, has retained attorney Edward Paltzik, known for representing former President Donald Trump. This development indicates a readiness to defend his position.
Lindsay Clancy, 36, faced charges of first-degree murder for the deaths of her three children, aged 5, 3, and 8 months. They were found strangled at their home in January 2023. The jury couldn’t reach a unanimous decision, resulting in an 11-1 vote and a mistrial on September 4, as declared by Judge William Sullivan.
Desronvil maintained confidence in his decision. He explained his consistent belief that the prosecution presented enough evidence to prove Clancy’s criminal responsibility. Despite attempts to suggest alternate theories, Desronvil felt pressured by the other jurors during deliberations.
Paltzik previously represented Trump in a dismissed lawsuit against The New York Times and a settled lawsuit against CBS regarding an interview with Kamala Harris. He also handled a case involving ABC News, which resulted in a settlement. Paltzik is also representing the friends of Nolan Wells in a separate case involving false allegations on social media after the young man’s disappearance.
Paltzik described Desronvil as an “American Hero” and “Champion of Justice,” emphasizing his current focus on Desronvil’s health and safety. Discussions about accountability and the complete story of the Clancy trial are planned for the future.
As prosecutors consider retrying Clancy, a potential resolution outside a jury trial is also on the table. Mark Astor, a legal expert, highlighted the challenges faced by Desronvil, who endured criticism inside and outside the courtroom. Astor warned about the impact on the jury system, which relies on individuals willing to serve.
Clancy’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 29 for a status hearing, providing potential updates on her case’s progress.
