A recent development in college football recruiting has placed LSU in the spotlight. The addition of former head coach Ed Orgeron to Lane Kiffin’s staff has rapidly impacted the team’s recruitment efforts. Orgeron, once the head coach of LSU, celebrated a major victory against Clemson in the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. This triumph is indicative of his potential to influence talent acquisition.
Shortly after Orgeron joined the team, he managed to secure visits from Jalen Brewster, the nation’s top recruit and a five-star defensive tackle. Brewster’s recruitment was primarily a contest between Texas Tech, where he’s currently committed, and the Florida Gators. Within two weeks, Orgeron’s involvement significantly improved LSU’s standing in Brewster’s decision-making process.

In addition to Brewster, LSU is also eyeing five-star recruit Easton Royal, a current Texas commit. Royal, hailing from New Orleans, appears increasingly likely to switch allegiance to LSU, especially with Orgeron’s strategic influence.
This recruiting weekend, featuring both Brewster and Royal, highlights LSU’s keen interest in fostering elite talent. Capturing these recruits would provide a significant boost to LSU’s 2027 class, further cementing their status as a powerhouse in college football.

Currently, LSU boasts five committed recruits, all classified as blue-chip prospects, two of whom are five-star players. The potential addition of Brewster and Royal represents a critical step towards achieving a top-five recruiting class.
This recruiting success underscores the strategic benefits of Kiffin’s decision to bring Orgeron onboard. Critics initially questioned this move, but the early results appear promising.
