Macklemore was recently removed from Ed Sheeran’s ‘Loop Tour’ in the United States after making remarks supporting Palestine. He performed the song ‘Hind’s Hall’ and vocally supported the ‘Free Palestine’ movement while opening for Sheeran. The Messina Touring Group, the tour promoter, stated that venues refused to host concerts with Macklemore on the lineup.
The rapper was initially scheduled to appear at eight of the ten remaining tour dates. In response, Macklemore issued a statement on Instagram, emphasizing that neither he, Ed Sheeran, nor Pink, who also faced backlash, are victims in this situation. He pointed out that the true victims are the Palestinian people, highlighting the violence they face.
Macklemore wrote, “I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety, and audiences around the world.”
His performance at MetLife Stadium included footage from the Gaza conflict, angering some fans and the Instagram page ‘Stop Antisemitism’. Pink later shared a video from that page, leading to criticism from those perceiving her as pro-Israel.
Macklemore discussed the issue with Sheeran, whom he regards as a friend. Despite their respectful dialogue, they didn’t reach an agreement. Macklemore claims that Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, influenced Sheeran’s decision by insisting Macklemore leave the tour to continue performing at specific venues.
In his Instagram post, Macklemore expressed concerns over associating ‘Free Palestine’ with antisemitism. He mentioned his ongoing advocacy for Palestine on worldwide stages for almost three years and questioned why sharing a stage with Sheeran, one of the world’s most prominent artists, led to his removal now.
Macklemore remains hopeful about his friendship with Sheeran. Although he needed only two shows to voice his support for Palestine, he views the controversy as a form of resistance rather than simply a tour setback.
Representatives for Ed Sheeran did not provide comments to Fox News Digital on the matter. Journalist Christina Dugan Ramirez provided the report.
