MAGA, Inc., the super PAC linked to President Donald Trump, has committed $10 million to ad spending in Texas. The funding aims to bolster Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his Senate race. This move comes amid a close contest with Democrat state Rep. James Talarico. Polls show both candidates running neck and neck.
The $10 million will fund digital and TV advertisements throughout Texas.
GOP Divisions Impact Texas Senate Race
The race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton remains intense. Trump previously endorsed Paxton, aiding him in surpassing incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican primary.
Ken Paxton, expressing gratitude on social media, wrote, “While James Talarico has a record of raising taxes on working families, my Protecting the Texas Promise Agenda cuts costs and makes life more affordable. Thank you, President @realDonaldTrump, for your support.” He stressed their joint commitment to triumphing for Texas and America.
Speculation had been growing about the super PAC’s financial involvement in the competitive race.
Talarico’s campaign stated, “Billionaire-backed dark money groups are lying about James Talarico because they’re scared of the people-powered movement we’re building to fix this broken, corrupt political system.”
Talarico advocates for increased taxes on the wealthy. He criticized an upcoming Republican convention in Dallas where attendees are expected to pay $20,000 to celebrate policies like tariffs and tax breaks. Talarico emphasized building a coalition across political lines to assist those affected by political corruption.
MAGA Inc. spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer accused Talarico, dubbed “High Tax Talarico,” of pursuing harmful policies for Texans. “MAGA Inc. is going to ensure Texas knows about Talarico’s radical policies and elects Ken Paxton to the U.S. Senate,” Pfeiffer remarked.
Campaign Fundraising Figures
The Texas Tribune reports Talarico’s campaign has raised $72 million, primarily from small contributions. Paxton’s campaign has collected $16.8 million.
Anti-Talarico ads criticize his tax proposals and impact on rural hospitals. Conversely, they highlight Paxton’s support for enhancing the child tax credit, providing tax breaks on medical expenses, and offering a $50,000 deduction for first-time homebuyers.
MAGA, Inc. holds approximately $400 million in campaign resources. Trump asserted, “I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us.”
