Authorities in Michigan have identified the parents found deceased along with their six children inside their burning home. The tragic incident, which took place in Grand Haven Township, is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the discovery was made Friday when officials responded to a fire. All eight family members, comprising two adults and six children, were found with gunshot wounds. This fact has prompted a suspicious death investigation.
On Monday, officials identified the adults as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. The children, whose names have not been released, included four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two girls, both aged 11. Two of the children were adopted.
The sheriff’s office believes Kristopher Karolkiewicz to be the suspect in the murder-suicide. They suspect he started fires throughout the house after the alleged murders.

The cause of the household fire remains under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators. Early signs suggest that the fire was set deliberately in several areas within the home. Tragically, the family’s pets also died from the fire and smoke.
Amanda Karolkiewicz had recently returned from China with her two adopted daughters, where they visited Shanghai Disneyland, as shared on her TikTok account.
I’m so grateful for the joy they brought into our life. We’re just so shattered, wrote Amanda’s stepfather, Steve Lawwill.
The Grand Haven Fire Department initially responded to reports of smoke odor in the area between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. but did not locate the fire. Later, at 11:45 a.m., officials were called back to the residence due to visible white smoke.
Authorities have confirmed there are no additional suspects involved in this case.
