Conservatives Criticize DSA Co-Chair’s Remarks on Dismantling American Institutions
The national co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Megan Romer, faced ridicule from conservatives after confirming many controversial policy ideas. These include abolishing the Senate, removing prisons, and eliminating national borders. During an interview with Fox News’ Shannon Bream, Romer affirmed the organization’s platform advocating for dismantling major American institutions.
When Bream asked about abolishing the Senate, Romer replied, “True.” She also agreed that the DSA supports replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, abolishing ICE, ending national borders while granting amnesty to those living illegally in the country, cutting Pentagon funding, phasing out prisons, and converting large corporations to public ownership.
Senator Ted Cruz from Texas reacted by calling the ideas insane, while GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson highlighted the platform, claiming it welcomed Communism to the U.S. Actress Patricia Heaton expressed her concern with a simple “Yikes.”
“These ideas could be coming to your community sooner than you think,” warned House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, pointing to the increasing influence of DSA-backed candidates.
Republican Tom Tiffany, running for governor in Wisconsin, compared Romer’s remarks to those of Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist also running in the state’s gubernatorial primary. Tiffany pointed out that Hong supported similar radical views. However, Hong’s campaign denied these accusations, stating she never called for abolishing the Senate.
Joe Mitchell, a Republican congressional candidate in Iowa, accused opponent Lindsay James of supporting identical DSA positions. James’ campaign refuted this, arguing Mitchell was misleading voters.
The Virginia GOP urged Democrats to denounce the DSA’s platform, arguing that silence suggests agreement. Tennessee Republican Rep. Chuck Fleischmann claimed the DSA threatens core American values.
Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman criticized Romer’s statements as promoting anarchy and questioned why Democrats don’t condemn the DSA. Businessman Bill Ackman called DSA’s view anarchistic and criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s socialist vision.
The DSA did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Socialist campaigns are gaining traction nationwide, particularly in New York, where DSA-backed candidates have defeated incumbents and are poised for victory in upcoming elections.
