Hobart junior Miles White is transforming how he channels his emotions, utilizing them more productively. This adjustment is helping him realize his full potential as a player. “I’m far more mature now than last year,” White shared. “I used to be more aggressive, but now I’m more composed.” However, White remains dynamic on the field. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, White plays as a hybrid linebacker/safety and running back. In three games, White has registered 19 tackles and leads his team with five tackles for loss. He also carries the ball with force, totaling 180 yards and scoring four touchdowns on 27 rushes.
Last season, White recorded 69 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, along with an interception and a fumble recovery. Offensively, he rushed 194 yards and scored three touchdowns on 15 carries. Hobart coach Eric Schreiber Jr. noted White’s tremendous development, both in skill and maturity. “He’s grown a lot,” Schreiber said. “He handles a heavier workload this season impressively and makes crucial plays.” White plays with incredible versatility, adapting to different defensive and offensive roles efficiently. Schreiber emphasized White’s substantial contribution, pointing out his frequent presence on the field and ability to endure its demands.
White greatly influences the team, ranked No. 6 in the Class 4A state coaches poll. Expressing a fondness for the defensive aspect of the game, White relishes impacting gameplay through decisive physicality. “I enjoy determining the flow of the game by making crucial hits,” he stated. White’s growing influence is evident, with teammates acknowledging his energetic presence and leadership. Senior linebacker Vontrell Jones recognized White as a vital team asset. “Miles is a key team player,” said Jones. “He’s a spark plug who lifts our spirits during sluggish practice sessions and enhances the team’s enjoyment.” White’s maturity also manifests through increased team involvement, ensuring preparedness and morale.
White remains optimistic about Hobart’s prospects, aiming for an extended fall season. Last year, the team achieved their first sectional championship since 2020 before falling short in regional competition. White indicated the team’s enhanced readiness and familial bond. “We’re more organized this year,” he remarked. “There’s confidence and unity, and we’re accustomed to larger crowds and heightened attention.” Beyond football, White participates in basketball and volleyball, bringing versatility and competitiveness to these sports as well. He has been a starter for two basketball seasons, averaging 4.3 points and 5.7 rebounds last season.
His ambitions now center around college football. White has upcoming visits scheduled to Iowa State, and he previously visited Louisville. Coach Schreiber stressed the need for White’s commitment to physical and academic preparation in pursuit of his collegiate goals. “His potential is immense,” Schreiber observed. “Success will hinge on his dedication and efforts.”
