The Milwaukee Brewers moved closer to eliminating the Los Angeles Dodgers with a decisive 6-2 victory in Game 3 at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night. If they win another game, Milwaukee will sweep the series, reversing last year’s National League Championship Series (NLCS) outcome.
Jackson Chourio set the tone early by hitting a home run off Blake Snell’s first pitch. Robert Gasser maintained the lead, delivering five impressive shutout innings. William Contreras helped solidify the win, celebrating after a crucial single in the eighth inning.
The Dodgers went ahead momentarily with a two-run double by Will Smith in the sixth inning. However, the Brewers quickly retaliated in the seventh. Andrew Vaughn walked to open the inning and Jake Bauers fought through an 11-pitch at-bat to hit a decisive two-run homer. Garrett Mitchell added to the score, sending another pitch over the wall, increasing the lead to 4-2 and effectively ending Snell’s night.
A wild pitch in the eighth further widened the gap. Joey Ortiz contributed an RBI single in the ninth, while DL Hall and Trevor Megill secured the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief.
In this series, the Dodgers appear drained, reminiscent of the 2004 NBA Finals where the Detroit Pistons overpowered the dominant Los Angeles Lakers. Missing standout performances from Tommy Edman in 2024 and Shohei Ohtani in 2025, the Dodgers lack the firepower to turn the tide.
Fans have voiced their disappointment online, speculating that the Dodgers are struggling intentionally to divert attention from the ongoing salary-cap debate. Manager Dave Roberts highlighted the need for urgency, remarking, “You just gotta win tomorrow. We’ve just got to get a win and find a way to build some momentum.”
Reflecting on past experiences, Bauers noted the team’s current determination compared to last year’s defeated attitude upon arriving in LA. Thursday night’s Game 4 presents an opportunity for the Brewers to seal the series and further expose the Dodgers’ vulnerabilities.
