President Donald Trump revealed plans for a new weapons-testing “Super Range” in Montana, focusing on advanced weapons and technologies. He made this announcement during a campaign rally at the Majestic Valley Arena in Kalispell.
“I’m pleased to inform you and announce that right here in Montana, the Department of War is going to establish a new Super Range for testing advanced weapons and technologies,” Trump stated.
The range will test technologies like potential autonomous weapons, space and electronic warfare technology, as well as supersonics and hypersonics. Trump noted that Montana’s contribution would help maintain American military superiority.
The president held the rally to support Republican Aaron Flint, who competes against Democrat Sam Forstag in the race for Montana’s 1st Congressional District. Trump’s visit occurred as part of his Western campaign, including stops in Arizona, aimed at boosting Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
Trump Defends Gun Rights
During his Montana speech, Trump emphasized gun rights, warning that Democrats could take away Americans’ firearms. He humorously suggested that wild animals would benefit if Democrats restricted gun ownership.
“If the Democrat communists win, they will take away your guns,” he told the audience. “Some of the wild animals you have up here that like eating you would gain a lot of weight.”
Trump assured voters that their Second Amendment rights would remain intact under Republican leadership.
He highlighted NRA ratings, noting that Republican candidates Flint and Kurt Alme received top scores, while Democrat Alani Bankhead received an F. Forstag received a question mark due to an incomplete NRA questionnaire.
Bankhead runs against Alme and independent Seth Bodnar for the Senate seat vacated by Republican Senator Steve Daines.
Trump also touched on Montana’s outdoor culture, discussing efforts to expand hunting access on public lands, though he lightheartedly joked about the specifics of his prepared remarks.
‘Tariffs Cause Wealth’
Trump defended his tariff policies, arguing they create wealth rather than inflation. “Tariffs don’t cause inflation. They cause wealth,” he stated.
He claimed that tariffs protected American sawmills, asserting that without them, sawmills might have closed.
These comments came alongside an inflation report showing prices rose 3.7% over the past year, contrary to Trump’s claim of reducing inflation to 1.7% from 19%.
Trump also appealed to farmers and ranchers, citing tax policy changes that could facilitate passing farms and ranches on to heirs.
