Former Miss North Carolina USA, Brittany Boltinhouse, recently spoke about losing her crown weeks before the Miss USA pageant. She claims her conservative Christian beliefs influenced the decision. On August 5, the Miss USA Organization announced Boltinhouse had been stripped of her title. Chairman Thom Brodeur attributed the decision to conduct not aligning with the organization’s values against racism, homophobia, and transphobia, although specifics were not disclosed.
This decision came just weeks after Boltinhouse won the state title and less than three weeks before she was to represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant on August 27.
Boltinhouse described the situation as a ‘blessing in disguise’ during an interview with the Carolina Journal. She expressed relief that the situation happened to her rather than someone else who might have struggled more.
I’m very much at peace and I’m actually glad it happened to me and not some other young lady…
Although bound by a confidentiality agreement about the title loss, Boltinhouse believes her political and religious views contributed.
I believe and think I was stripped from my title because of my political stance and my belief system as a conservative Christian woman.
She affirmed her pride in her faith and conservative stance and stated that individuals should freely express their political views. Boltinhouse did not know if her previous support for President Donald Trump affected the decision.
Despite the setback, Boltinhouse forgives the organization, urging others to stand by their beliefs. She encourages women with diverse beliefs to express themselves freely, regardless of the platform.
The first runner-up, Myla Hadley, will now represent North Carolina with full support from the organization.
Brodeur mentioned that the decision was made in consultation with Boltinhouse, her state directors, and the Miss USA Organization, emphasizing that accountability doesn’t justify personal attacks.
There is a young woman at the center of this…she is still a human being with a family, a future, and a life ahead…
