The astronauts on NASA’s Artemis III mission are set to make waves in fashion while exploring the moon. They will don a unique Prada-designed Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (L.C.V.G.). This announcement came during a special event at Prada’s SoHo store in Manhattan.
Prada collaborated with Axiom Space to create this innovative garment, part of a specially designed Extravehicular Mobility Unit spacesuit, also from the Axiom x Prada partnership. This stylish attire will be worn during lunar missions, including future moonwalks.
At the event, Prada’s chief marketing officer and head of sustainability, Lorenzo Bertelli, stood on stage with Axiom Space officials for the grand unveiling. Black-clad waiters served champagne and green juice to guests amid the luxurious setting of high-end leather handbags and dresses.
Axiom Space’s CEO, Jonathan Cirtain, highlighted the striking appearance of the L.C.V.G., departing from traditional space clothing. This version offers both style and functionality. Made from a blend of yarns including titanium, the suit features stirrup pants and black tubes elegantly, creating an anatomical flow throughout the knit.
This collaboration builds on an existing partnership between Prada and Axiom Space that began in 2023. The L.C.V.G.’s design evokes aesthetic impressions more commonly associated with superhero costumes, offering a futuristic look unlike any predecessors.
