Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has died at the age of 41 as a result of severe pneumonia leading to sepsis, as disclosed by his family in a statement on Saturday. Just days prior to his passing, Busch was hospitalized after collapsing during a Chevrolet simulator session. Reports and a 911 call indicated he had shortness of breath and was coughing blood, but he remained alert at that time.
A statement shared by Dakota Hunter, vice president of Kyle Busch Companies, revealed that his medical evaluation confirmed the progression from severe pneumonia to sepsis, causing rapid complications. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports first reported the family’s statement.
Kyle Busch was preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway before his sudden hospitalization. His NASCAR career spanned from 2004, boasting 762 career starts and 63 wins. He clinched CUP championships in both 2015 and 2019, achieving 234 victories across NASCAR’s three national series. He holds all-time records in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with 102 and 69 wins respectively.
Reflecting on Busch’s passing, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell praised him as an ‘American badass,’ highlighting Busch’s embodiment of the ideal race-car driver. O’Donnell noted his memorable and sometimes contentious moments with Busch, expressing the professional rivalry he will miss.
Busch’s significant contribution to NASCAR leaves a legacy in the sport, both in records and in personal influence. For ongoing sports coverage, fans are encouraged to follow Fox News Digital on social media and subscribe to their newsletter.
