New York Mets’ Alleged Misuse of AI in MLB Games

The New York Mets have come under scrutiny for their alleged misuse of artificial intelligence to enhance in-game decisions. According to reports from the New York Post, several MLB teams, including the Mets, took advantage of in-dugout iPads to access unauthorized programs. Despite these efforts, the Mets remain at the bottom of the standings, raising questions about the effectiveness of their AI-assisted strategies.

The controversy began with the discovery of a custom tab on the in-dugout iPads, which allowed access to programs not sanctioned by Major League Baseball. This tab has since been disabled, preventing further use.

The custom tab allowed teams to access other programs (than those allowed by MLB) and will no longer be accessible,” according to Dan Martin from the New York Post.

The timeline and duration of the Mets’ use of this loophole remain unclear. It is also unknown whether former manager Carlos Mendoza, interim manager Andy Green, or both were involved in implementing AI-driven decisions. However, it is evident that the AI strategy used did not yield the desired results.

There are several possibilities for the failure. Incorrect prompts might have been entered. The AI’s logic could have been flawed. Alternatively, the staff might have misapplied the AI’s recommendations. Another possibility is that the Mets’ roster was inherently weak, making it difficult for any analysis to produce positive outcomes.
