Nick Reiner Indicted on Murder Charges for Parents’ Deaths

Nick Reiner has been charged with the murder of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, following a December stabbing incident at their home in Brentwood. On Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, with special circumstances of multiple murders and lying in wait, as stated by Los Angeles County officials.

Reiner, aged 32, appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom to address the new charges, which supersede the original case from 2025. The indictment introduces a special allegation regarding lying in wait, a factor that could impact sentencing by potentially increasing penalties.

“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman in a statement.

Katherine Greene, a Deputy Public Defender representing Reiner, chose not to comment following the arraignment. The indictment speeds up proceedings by allowing the case to advance directly to a jury trial, avoiding a preliminary hearing that might have occurred later this year.

Reiner also faces accusations of using a deadly weapon, specifically a knife. Arrested on December 15, a day after his parents were found in their bedroom, he remains in custody without bail and is set to return to court on September 15.

If found guilty, Reiner could face the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole. The District Attorney’s office will decide on pursuing the death penalty later.

Rob Reiner, 78, was a well-known director famed for movies like “When Harry Met Sally…,” “A Few Good Men,” and “This Is Spinal Tap.” Michele Reiner, 70, made her mark as a photographer and producer. Their deaths shocked the Hollywood community, prompting tributes from colleagues and political figures alike.

The Reiner family has been public about Nick’s struggles with drug addiction. He has openly discussed his addiction history in interviews, detailing his experiences with treatment centers, homelessness, and relapses starting from his teenage years.
