On Tuesday, North Korea launched multiple projectiles, including short-range missiles, toward its western seas, according to the South Korean military.
The projectiles, believed to be close-range ballistic missiles, were fired around 1 p.m. local time from Chongju, located in North Pyongan, a coastal area in western North Korea. These missiles traveled approximately 50 miles before landing in the Yellow Sea, reported the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul.
The estimated reach of these short-range missiles is about 185 miles. Additionally, the statement indicated that North Korean forces fired artillery munitions.
In response, South Korea is collaborating with U.S. analysts to gather further details about the launches. “We have enhanced surveillance and monitoring to prepare for any additional launches, sharing pertinent information closely with the United States and Japan while maintaining a state of full readiness,” the South Korean military stated, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
This marks the first launch by North Korea since April 19, when it test-fired short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, referred to as the East Sea by both Koreas. The Yellow Sea is known as the West Sea in both North and South Korea.
