New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani welcomed all media outlets for a meeting with President Donald Trump. This came after Trump’s controversial ban on some media at the White House.
During a press conference at Gracie Mansion, Mamdani emphasized equality in media access regardless of their opinions or criticisms. ‘We will have all media members on the lawn,’ he stated.
Trump later defended his decision, discussing the suspension of presidential pool coverage by remaining networks like FOX News, ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC.
‘They said they would boycott, but they haven’t. Look at all the press here,’ Trump remarked.
Trump explained his choice to engage with media he claims haven’t covered his achievements fairly, such as his election victory, efforts to settle wars, and improving economic indicators.
‘The press has an obligation,’ Trump said, citing historic economic numbers. ‘Nobody’s done what we’ve achieved.’
Trump argued that allowing certain media outlets into the White House might harm national security, accusing them of promoting ‘fake news,’ especially regarding Iran. He criticized CNN specifically, labeling its coverage as negative.
‘They’re bad for national security. It’s my obligation to address it,’ he concluded. Meanwhile, major news networks announced the suspension of pooled coverage.
