New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is under scrutiny due to his association with Uncivilized Media, a controversial Qatar-based outlet accused of disseminating antisemitic conspiracy theories. Mamdani participated in an interview with the outlet in 2023. As of July 24, 2026, he was following them on Instagram, but by July 27, he had unfollowed the account. However, clips from his interview were shared as collaborative posts on Instagram, appearing on both his and the outlet’s accounts.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and experts on online antisemitism have criticized Uncivilized Media for content that accuses Jews and Israelis of global domination, colonialism, and media control. A July 2026 video exemplified these accusations, claiming Israelis aim to “colonize the world.”
Resurfaced Clips Raise Concerns
Mamdani’s alliance with such a platform has alarmed many, including Jewish New Yorkers who question his alignment with the outlet’s views. The ADL’s senior vice president of counter-extremism, Oren Segal, noted that while Mamdani’s interviews avoided these conspiracies, his presence on the platform might inadvertently normalize its other content.
When one appears on any platform, it kind of normalizes the rest of the content that is out there,Segal told Fox News Digital.
Segal emphasized that they are not accusing Mamdani of endorsing the outlet’s controversial content. However, he pointed out that his connections with Uncivilized Media prompt questions regarding his views on their programming.
Mamdani’s Perspective on Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
In the 2023 interview, Mamdani expressed that the Palestinian issue is “central to my identity.” He described it as a struggle for freedom, questioning why support for freedom and justice often excludes Palestinians. Mamdani linked his background to his understanding of this conflict, highlighting an upbringing rich in empathy and solidarity with Palestinians.
Another video revealed Mamdani identifying as a socialist, expressing that progressive views align with Muslim beliefs. He criticized the notion that Muslims inherently oppose queer rights, challenging such narratives as overly simplistic and historically inaccurate.
Call for Clarity
The revisitation of Mamdani’s interview with Uncivilized Media has reignited concerns among Jewish residents, who feel their relationship with City Hall is strained. Segal suggested Mamdani could alleviate these concerns by publicly opposing the outlet’s antisemitic narratives.
If Mayor Mamdani claims that he is building a better New York when there are many Jewish residents who consistently feel unheard, I think it’s fair to ask him to clarify whether this program, that he has appeared on, represents his views on Israelis more broadly in terms of their content,Segal said.
The renewed focus on Mamdani’s associations comes after his controversial remarks about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, labeling him a “war criminal” and accusing him of genocide against Palestinians. Neither Mamdani’s office nor Uncivilized Media provided comments to Fox News Digital regarding these matters.
