One recurring discussion involves Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen as the top quarterback. Allen secured the No. 1 spot, pushing Mahomes to No. 2, reversing last year’s order.

Mahomes, known for drawing motivation from perceived slights, remains publicly unfazed by his No. 2 ranking. The decorated player, holding titles like two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion, expressed contentment during an interview on “Yahoo! Sports Daily” on July 15. He acknowledged his drop due to performance issues but emphasized the importance of proving himself, stating, “It’s my job this year to prove why I can jump up in the list back to No. 1.”

Mahomes is recovering from a torn ACL and LCL, sustained last December, which necessitated season-ending surgery. The Chiefs, after three consecutive Super Bowl runs, ended with a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Chiefs’ decline started with their Week 9 defeat in Buffalo, turning their 5-3 standing into a 6-11 finish.

In the ongoing Allen-Mahomes rivalry, Allen shows dominance in regular season matchups with a 5-1 record against Mahomes and the Chiefs. However, Mahomes holds a perfect 4-0 playoff record against Allen and the Bills.

Looking forward, Mahomes targets a return by Week 1 against the Denver Broncos, aiming for full recovery and readiness when the Chiefs face the Bills on Thanksgiving.
