In a thrilling college football game on Saturday night, Ole Miss emerged victorious over LSU, marking a significant win in Lane Kiffin’s anticipated return to Oxford. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves added to the excitement post-game.
The LSU Tigers attempted a comeback in the third quarter by scoring two touchdowns, narrowing Ole Miss’s lead to three points. LSU tied the game with an early fourth-quarter field goal. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss then made a decisive 14-yard run for a touchdown with 6:14 remaining in the game. Ole Miss secured an eight-point lead with a successful two-point conversion.
As the game concluded with a 32-24 victory for Ole Miss, Governor Reeves took to social media platform X to share his thoughts on the game. He made a pointed reference to LSU’s coaching changes and roster expenses, stating, “What does a $54 million buyout for the old coach, a $91 million contract for the new coach, and a $50 million roster get you? An a-s whipping in Oxford, Mississippi!”
This comment highlighted the ongoing rivalry and the buzz surrounding Kiffin’s move from Ole Miss to LSU, as well as the offseason adjustments made to the Tigers’ roster.
The game week had been filled with tension and trash talk, culminating in an intense atmosphere at Vaught Hemingway Stadium, where Kiffin faced a hostile reception from Ole Miss fans.
After the game, Kiffin expressed relief at the conclusion of what he described as an emotional event. “I’m glad it’s over. This was an emotional game for a lot of reasons,” Kiffin stated, acknowledging the impact of his time at Ole Miss on his life and career. Despite the loss, he praised the Rebels’ performance. “Congrats to those guys. They played really well. They deserved to win,” he added.
Trinidad Chambliss, who played a pivotal role in Ole Miss’s victory, shared his sentiments on the win. “It meant more than other games,” Chambliss noted, emphasizing the emotional significance of the match.
With the win, Ole Miss is anticipated to surpass LSU in the upcoming AP poll rankings. Ole Miss entered the game ranked No. 8 nationally, while LSU held the No. 7 spot.
