Parker McCollum cherishes the moments he spent as a child on hunting trips with his father. This experience greatly influences him now as a father of two sons. He is keen on creating similar memories with his sons as his father did with him. McCollum, who recently welcomed his second son with wife Hallie Ray, eagerly anticipates sharing these experiences with his children.
During a family visit to their ranch, he spent meaningful time with his eldest son, Major. Although Major is still too young to participate fully, McCollum appreciates these moments. In interviews, he fondly recalls days spent with his father on hunting trips. These trips often involved early school releases and adventurous weekends focused on spending time together.
“I look forward to doing that for him and with him,” McCollum said, reflecting on his anticipation for these experiences with his son.
Hunting and outdoor activities are integral to McCollum’s life, tracing back to his first bird hunting experience using a single-shot .410 shotgun at the age of eight. His father was a constant companion during these excursions. This love for the outdoors began even before he participated in hunting trips, as family members often went without him due to his age.
Beyond hunting, McCollum’s outdoor experiences included working with cattle and branding steers. He hopes his children, Major and Rocker, will develop a similar appreciation for nature. For McCollum, it’s more than just hunting; it’s about the soul-soothing impact of being outdoors.
With a hectic music career and family commitments, McCollum recognizes the importance of taking time to unwind. He values the tranquility found in nature, whether or not he encounters wildlife. The ranch trips are less about achieving tasks and more about relaxing and enjoying family time.
“There’s just something about it that’s so good for your soul,” McCollum said, emphasizing the mental and emotional benefits of spending time in nature.
McCollum aims to instill in his sons the importance of stepping back from life’s demands to appreciate the outdoors. These experiences are a deliberate contrast to the fast pace of daily life, offering a much-needed respite.
“Don’t ever get so busy or worried about other stuff that you forget to do this,” McCollum advised, imparting his philosophy on balancing life’s responsibilities with nature’s tranquility.
