Paul Pelosi Faces Hit-and-Run Charge in Yountville Incident
Paul Pelosi, husband of Representative Nancy Pelosi, is facing charges related to a hit-and-run in Yountville, California. According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Pelosi family informed Newsweek that Mr. Pelosi has apologized to the vehicle owner and will be responsible for the damage. Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting on this matter.
The crash took place around 2:30 p.m. local time in Napa County’s wine-producing region. A witness reported a brown convertible hitting a parked, unoccupied vehicle and then driving away. Investigators later identified Paul Pelosi, age 86, as the driver. Thankfully, the incident resulted in no injuries.
Although the offense is a misdemeanor, Paul Pelosi was not arrested. The sheriff’s department plans to submit a driver re-evaluation referral for him to the California DMV, a standard procedure for elderly drivers.
Mr. Pelosi acknowledged hitting something but did not know what and continued driving until his car was unable to proceed further. The investigation ruled out alcohol involvement with a Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device registering 0.00, as stated by the sheriff’s office via Fox News.
Paul Pelosi had previous legal issues, pleading guilty to driving under the influence charges in Napa County in May 2022. He received a sentence of five days in jail and three years of probation but served two days and had credits for conduct, leaving one day for a work program in the local courthouse.
His probation terms included attending a three-month driver class and installing an ignition interlock device in his vehicle. Additionally, he had to pay approximately $5,000 in victim restitution and nearly $2,000 in fines.
Historically, a San Francisco Examiner clipping from 1957 noted Paul, then 16, in a fatal crash that took his brother David’s life. David reportedly died due to a neck brace that strangled him after the car overturned.

The assailant, David DePape, sought Nancy Pelosi during the attack but did not find her as she was not home. DePape received a 30-year prison sentence from a California judge.
