Pete Hegseth has taken on the role of U.S. Defense Secretary under President Donald Trump. His swearing-in ceremony took place on January 25, 2025, presided over by Vice President JD Vance during the second term of the Trump administration.
Hegseth hails from Minnesota and completed his undergraduate education at Princeton University in 2003. A decade later, he achieved a master’s degree from Harvard University. His military career includes significant service in the U.S. Army National Guard. While in the Guard, Hegseth participated in several active-duty missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Throughout his service, Hegseth received numerous awards. These honors include two Bronze Star Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB), and the Joint Commendation Medal.
In addition to his military career, Hegseth has been involved in media. He is a former Fox News host and has authored several books. One of his notable works, “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free,” was published in 2024.
