A devastating plane crash near Kansas City, Missouri, resulted in the deaths of 11 skydivers and the pilot, leaving families to witness the tragic aftermath. The incident is under investigation by the FAA and NTSB, with power issues suspected as a contributing factor. No evidence of intentional wrongdoing has emerged.
In another tragedy, all 11 people aboard a skydiving plane perished after a crash in northeastern France. The Meurthe-et-Moselle Prefecture reported that the aircraft went down after takeoff from Nancy-Essey Airport. This prompted authorities to launch the department’s emergency command center. Victims included five parachuting instructors, five novice jumpers, and the pilot.
“The aircraft fell almost vertically,” said Prefect Yves Séguy, highlighting the narrow avoidance of collateral damage.
Flight data indicated the single-engine Pilatus PC-6 made a sharp left turn shortly post-takeoff before crashing near residential areas, about 300 yards from the runway.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, accompanied by Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot, expressed profound emotion upon meeting local officials. They commended the concerted efforts of emergency responders, including firefighters and police.
A psychological support unit was activated to assist families and witnesses. Government representatives stated the Paris prosecutor’s office is leading the investigation, focusing on crash causes. Tabarot conveyed condolences and acknowledged the crash as France’s deadliest skydiving-related aviation accident in 30 years.
Skydivers were preparing for tandem jumps, requiring novices to be strapped to instructors for descent. Local accounts described hearing the engine cut abruptly, followed by the crash’s impact.
Meanwhile, Missouri faced a similar tragedy weeks earlier, claiming 12 lives, including inexperienced skydivers and the pilot. Families awaiting at the airport witnessed this heartbreaking scene.
