Criminal defense attorney Donna Rotunno has offered insights into the Lindsay Clancy murder case following a mistrial. During a segment on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ she discussed the possibility of a plea deal and whether a second trial is necessary.
The mistrial has sparked debate on the potential outcomes. Judge Judy Sheindlin commented on the case after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. She warned of potential risks if prosecutors choose not to retry the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three young children.
Judy Sheindlin, known for her long-running show ‘Judge Judy,’ shared her thoughts with TMZ. She expressed concern over not pursuing a retrial, following the jury’s 11-1 split in favor of Clancy not being criminally responsible. She emphasized that while Clancy killed her children, the question remains whether there is an excuse for her actions.
Defense lawyer Kevin Reddington, representing Lindsay Clancy, observed the jury deliberations at Plymouth County Superior Court. The defense has maintained that Clancy was not criminally responsible due to mental illness. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after jurors reported an inability to reach a verdict. Eleven jurors sided with Clancy’s non-guilty plea based on lack of criminal responsibility, while one juror opposed.
After the mistrial, Reddington indicated he would challenge any further attempts to retry Clancy. Nonetheless, he mentioned that if charges were reduced to second-degree murder, he might consider a bench trial, aiming for probation.
Lindsay Clancy continues to be in custody at Tewksbury Hospital and is scheduled for another court date on September 29.
