President Donald Trump has expressed strong opinions on Ukraine’s military strategy during his stay in Ireland. He called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cease strikes targeting Russian refineries. According to Trump, these attacks are causing a significant shortage of diesel fuel.
While attending the Irish Open at one of his golf courses, Trump spoke with the media. He emphasized the need for Zelenskyy to focus on other targets while avoiding actions that disrupt diesel fuel production in Russia.
The recent long-range strikes by Ukraine have concentrated on Russia’s oil and gas industry. Kyiv asserts that these industries support and fuel Russia’s war on Ukraine. Trump’s comments follow continued drone assaults from both Russia and Ukraine, impacting civilian areas and vital infrastructure.
In the Russian region of Tatarstan, two people lost their lives due to a Ukrainian drone attack. The strike targeted Nizhnekamsk, a city with significant oil refining and petrochemical facilities. The regional head reported civilians dying when a drone crashed near their vehicle.
Elsewhere, Ukraine targeted the oil refinery at Sloviansk-on-Kuban in Russia’s Krasnodar region. This attack led to injuries and pipeline damage, alongside a massive blaze. Russia’s defense ministry reported shooting down 389 Ukrainian drones across various regions and Crimea.
The geopolitical tension remains high, with Russia intensifying its air campaign against Ukraine. Ballistic missiles and drones have been used to weaken Ukraine’s defenses, focus on civilian morale, and compromise the power grid ahead of winter.
In diplomatic developments, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned potential peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. These talks could happen as soon as October, although territorial disputes remain a critical issue, as noted by U.S. envoy Jared Kushner.
Kushner stated that mediators aim to find creative solutions without compromising Ukraine’s objectives. The goal is to end the conflict and set a new framework for peace that prevents future escalations.
