The NFL’s popular “RedZone” broadcast is back for its 18th season, starting Sunday. While discussions are focused on the presence of commercials, host Scott Hanson has additional insights to share.
Commercials in RedZone
Scott Hanson recently spoke with OutKick regarding commercials in RedZone. He mentioned, “There will be what people define as commercials.” The plan is to include limited 15-second commercials between plays. For example, on a Dallas Cowboys drive, after a first-and-10 play with a 5-yard gain, a standalone 15-second commercial will be aired. Fans previously experienced 16 commercials during a season marking an increase from previous commercial-free programs. However, fears of further increases for 2026 are unfounded. Hanson confirmed fewer commercials will be aired at the season’s start.
He clarified, “The rest is up to the business folks, and Uncle Scott doesn’t make the business decisions at the NFL.” Despite advertisements, their limited amount allows fans to form their opinions.
RedZone’s Popularity and Reach
RedZone’s popularity spans across various arenas, including the White House in recent administrations. Hanson commented on players’ affinity for RedZone, noting stars like Tom Brady and Josh Allen enjoy the program on off days. “RedZone is a phenomenon,” Hanson remarked.
Hanson’s Adventures
Aside from sports, Scott Hanson leads an adventurous life. Partnering with Lowe’s for the “Earn Your Sunday” campaign, he appears with NFL talents Dak Prescott, Christian McCaffrey, and Justin Jefferson.
Hanson, a travel enthusiast, has explored six continents. He aims to visit Antarctica, the only continent he has yet to explore. His adventures include cage diving with great white sharks and safari excursions near lions on the Serengeti.
“I’ve done both,” Hanson said, comparing adventure vacations of running with bulls and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro showcased beauty while the bull run demanded courage.
Fear comparisons revealed, “Lions, because safaris lack bars of protection on the Serengeti,” compared to cage diving with sharks.
Culinary Preferences
Hanson explored culinary experiences, choosing Mexican over Chinese food due to unique tastes in China. “In China, the food differs from American Chinese food,” he recalled, having eaten duck tongue under misinterpretations.
Seven hours of RedZone begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
