Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK, marking their first visit since leaving royal duties six years ago for life in California. They arrived at Birmingham International Airport with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, on a private flight from Van Nuys, California.
According to The Associated Press, their plane landed shortly before noon on Wednesday. The family did not require a police escort as they left the airport, opting instead for their personal security team.
Fox News Digital reached out to them for comments regarding this visit. Their return was announced just days after they revealed plans to stay in Britain for an extended period. Archie and Lilibet will be attending British schools starting in September.
The couple plans to reside in a private home outside London, while maintaining their residence in California. Despite their return, the Duke and Duchess remain nonworking royals, indicating no return to official royal duties.
King Charles III has been informed of their plans and is reportedly pleased about spending more time with his grandchildren. Prince William and Princess Kate have also been made aware of the Sussexes’ stay in the UK.
Kinsey Schofield, a royal expert, informed Fox News Digital that Prince William was surprised by Harry and Meghan’s decision. It seems Harry had, in recent comments, shown interest in spending more time in the UK, but a full family return was unexpected.
“William now has to navigate a situation he did not create, did not ask for and, given the state of their relationship, almost certainly would not have chosen,” Schofield commented.
This move comes despite Harry’s previous statements expressing concerns over security issues for his family in Britain. As recently as May 2025, he indicated he could not foresee returning to the UK with his family due to these concerns.
