Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK to a comedic welcome on ‘Saturday Night Live UK.’ The show made jokes about their relationship with the royal family, a multi-million-dollar Netflix deal, and Meghan’s lifestyle endeavors.
A Royal Comedy Sketch
The sketch started with King Charles III and Queen Camilla enjoying a serene weekend at Balmoral. Actors Larry Dean and Emma Sidi played the couple in this humorous portrayal. Their calm retreat was humorously disrupted by the sudden entrance of Prince Harry, played by Jack Shep, and Meghan Markle, portrayed by Ayoade Bamgboye.
‘Oh, Camilla, nothing like a quiet Saturday in Balmoral. Clean Scottish air, dirty Scottish people… bliss,’ said Larry Dean as King Charles.
The humor escalated as Markle presented an ice tray as a gift, hinting at her supposed kitchen skills despite affluent lifestyle.
Financial and Family Jokes
King Charles, in the sketch, questioned the couple’s financial decisions, leading to a joke about their substantial Netflix contract.
‘Daddy, it was $60 million! How long was it meant to last?’ Shep as Prince Harry jokingly defended.
Despite the laughter, Buckingham Palace reiterated that the couple’s royal duties would not resume with their move back to the UK.
Permanent Change in Royal Status
Since stepping back in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal roles have remained unchanged. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the couple would not take on official duties. They retain financial independence and privacy while acting primarily in a personal capacity.
A letter circulated by the Lord Chamberlain confirmed no change in their titles, stating they act akin to private citizens in their charitable and commercial ventures.
The couple, along with children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, intends to settle privately outside London. Despite the move, their royal status remains as when they initially stepped down from official roles.
