The Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, saw a well-organized logistics operation by agitators before protests began. Observations revealed stockpiles of various supplies including masks, duct tape, medical supplies, sunscreen, hard hats, goggles, and protective gear laid out near the protest site. Many participants wore masks, respirators, and helmets.
Fox News Digital inquiries about the preparations were met with silence from the group involved. When recording the scene, a protester attempted to seize the phone being used.
Protest Dynamics
Approximately 200 anti-ICE demonstrators, associated with far-left and socialist groups, were present alongside ICE supporters, including individuals claiming affiliation with the Proud Boys. Delaney Hall has been the focal point of ongoing tensions, sparked by an open letter from detainees alleging mistreatment, lack of medical care, and insufficient food.
DHS Response and Security Measures
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) refuted the allegations, citing menus that include three daily meals like chicken fajitas and Salisbury steak. Following clashes resulting in agent assaults, Governor Mikie Sherrill tasked the New Jersey State Police with ensuring safety, citing a necessary response to the perceived ICE surge.
Agitator Influence
State officials attributed much of the disorder to external agitators. Attorney General Jennifer Davenport noted that most arrested individuals were from outside New Jersey. By Saturday, Delaney Hall had become a fortified area with orange barricades and metal fencing.
