During Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial, a psychologist revealed that Clancy reported hearing a “male voice” instructing her to kill her children. This testimony is part of the ongoing case regarding the deaths of her three children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—who were found strangled in their Duxbury home in 2023.
Clancy, 36, faces charges of first-degree murder. Her defense argues that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time of the incident. The prosecution has concluded its case, allowing Clancy’s defense to present evidence to support her condition claim.
Dr. Paul Zeizel, a clinical and forensic psychologist, stated that Clancy confessed to her then-husband, Patrick, about hearing a voice demanding she kill her children and herself. “She communicated her love for Patrick, despite an inability to show much emotion, and mentioned feeling compelled by the voice,” Zeizel recounted.
The defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, inquired whether Clancy’s symptoms were genuine. Zeizel responded affirmatively, dismissing any signs of deceit or malingering, describing Clancy as “honest.” Zeizel visited Clancy at the hospital after Reddington secured a court order for the meeting. During his visit, Zeizel allowed Clancy to use his phone out of compassion to contact her husband.
Susan Clancy, Lindsay’s former mother-in-law, testified her concerns about Lindsay’s mental health during the 2022 holidays, although she portrayed Lindsay as a “wonderful mother.” “Lindsay was suffering,” Susan Clancy admitted, noting the family’s worry. “She was always very nurturing and loving,” Susan added.
The defense continues its efforts to prove that Clancy was undergoing severe postpartum psychosis, aiming to persuade the jury of her mental health struggles. The case attracts considerable public attention as social media discusses its complexities.
