Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, plans to leave the U.S. House of Representatives when his current term ends. Despite his loss in the Texas GOP attorney general primary runoff, Roy emphasizes the achievements Republicans have made, although recognizing areas needing further action.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Roy highlighted the GOP’s accomplishments on tax provisions made through President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”. He also praised the enforcement of border laws, claiming Republicans have reduced illegal crossings.
The “Laken Riley Act” stands out as a significant measure. Named after a woman murdered in 2024, the act addresses issues arising from immigration and border protection failures. Roy argues for unity and direction among Republicans to secure future electoral success.
“Have we done everything we should do? No,” he stated, acknowledging congressional shortcomings while still optimistic about retaining GOP control in Congress.
Roy predicts a challenging midterm for Republicans but remains hopeful about holding the House. With a few days left before the elections break, he urges Republicans to resume efforts post-midterms.
In recent commentary, Roy criticized government inefficiency in distributing funds. He questioned the Trump administration’s proposal assisting childcare for families with stay-at-home parents, suggesting independence better serves the American ideal of freedom.
A White House official confirmed no formal announcement on the childcare proposal exists, labeling discussions as speculative.
Reflecting on future political ambitions, Roy leaves any potential decisions up to divine direction and Texas voters, focusing on solving national issues.
