Deep in what is often termed Trump country, Republican Congressman Kevin Hern from Oklahoma is making moves to secure a Senate seat. Hern is perplexed by the difficulties encountered in passing a significant voter ID and citizenship verification bill, the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.
Hern recently emerged victorious in the primary elections held in Oklahoma. In an interview with Fox News Digital, he highlighted a common voter concern: whether Congress will advance the SAVE America Act. They’re saying we need to work on… the SAVE Act,
Hern expressed ahead of primary Election Day I mean, this is time and time again.
The bill, however, remains stalled in the Senate where Democrats have united in opposition against it. Disquietingly for Hern, certain Republicans have also opposed different versions of the bill. This is something I’m not real sure why Republican senators are not supporting,
Hern remarked, I understand why Democrats don’t support it. They don’t support anything that protects America.
Serving five terms in the House, Hern has ascended to the fourth-highest position in House GOP leadership, serving as the House Republican Policy Chair. Previously, Hern vied for the role of Speaker of the House after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted.
Hern’s Senate bid follows President Donald Trump’s nomination of fellow Oklahoman, Markwayne Mullin, as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Hern’s entry into the Senate race earlier in the year attracted endorsements from several members of the Senate and Trump himself, who praised Hern as being strongly supported by the fiercest MAGA Warriors in Oklahoma, and the most Highly Respected Leaders in the United States Senate!
He recognizes Oklahoma as Trump territory, observing that voters love the president. They love the fact that I support the president and I work with the president.
Given Trump’s previous commanding victories across the state, Hern faces favorable odds against the Democratic contenders in November.
However, Hern is not settling comfortably into his lead. Despite his background of growing up without indoor plumbing, Hern values hard work. He previously built a business empire owning 24 McDonald’s restaurants in Oklahoma, earning him the nickname McCongressman. I just respect the idea of work,
Hern shared, I think working hard gives you a chance to compete with anybody.
His robust Senate campaign reflects this ideology. The president endorsed me in the first 48 hours because of the work I’ve done over the last eight years,
Hern recollects, attributing it to that common word of work and working hard.
Should Hern triumph in the upcoming elections, he does not rule out pursuing a leadership role within the Senate GOP. Declaring the value of early preparation ingrained in his business experience, Hern stated, If you wait till something comes available, and you start working hard, it’s too late.
His competitive drive is unwavering. We’ve got people on third base who think they’re ready to be in leadership… it’s a guy like me that’s just been working hard, positioning, building relationships,
Hern stated, emphasizing the necessity of diligence and network building.
