The days following a major win are often hectic, with airport hassles adding to the stress. On the Monday after his triumph, Fox boarded a flight from Manchester to London before returning home via Heathrow Airport. Carrying the trophy securely in a protective case, he faced a dilemma at the departure gate. He needed to negotiate with the gate agents to carry the Claret Jug as a carry-on rather than checking it in.

Fox recounted during an appearance on ‘The Smylie Show’ how he approached a gate agent with two boxes, seeking permission to bring them onto the plane. He explained the contents, saying, “The Claret Jug, it’s the oldest trophy in golf.” The agent, upon confirming his win, readily agreed to let him take it aboard.

As Fox navigated airport security, many travelers recognized him, which likely aided in his request. In an interesting twist, once on the plane, Fox found himself seated directly behind Cameron Young, who had closely contested him, finishing runner-up at the championship.
