Saint-Tropez Faces Tourist Overcrowding Issues
Saint-Tropez, once a glamorous haven for celebrities and the wealthy, is now attracting a new crowd: influencers. These social media personalities highlight the town’s luxury shops and stunning waterfront, drawing even more visitors to the French Riviera.
For those like JQ Louise, a luxury travel influencer who has visited Saint-Tropez for 15 years, the area has become incredibly crowded. “Saint-Tropez is a dream destination,” she said, noting that its picturesque views are a big attraction. However, the influx of visitors during peak summer months is overwhelming. The town, with its 4,000 permanent residents, swells to accommodate up to 80,000 visitors daily in July and August.
The mayor, Sylvie Siri, has begun urging tourists to consider visiting during the off-season. This reflects the unsustainable nature of the summer tourist surge. Yet, the beauty of Saint-Tropez remains undeniable. As some travelers express frustration over the overcrowding, others defend its allure.
Online discussions reveal divided opinions about the value of visiting Saint-Tropez during peak times. While some criticize the overcrowding and high costs, others praise the breathtaking scenery and luxury accommodations. Traveling during less busy periods can offer a more relaxed experience.
Louise advises avoiding the peak summer months and instead visiting in September, October, April, or May. This not only avoids the crowds but also allows travelers to explore other Riviera gems, which are equally or more beautiful.
Visitors should consider using one location as a base and planning day trips to various scenic villages along the Riviera. Whether staying in Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Monaco, or Nice, there are many less-traveled roads leading to equally stunning destinations.
