San Francisco Giants Suspend Harrison Bader’s Salary Following Scooter Accident

San Francisco Giants outfielder Harrison Bader has been suspended from receiving his salary after a scooter accident sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Giants president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, stated that the team is investigating the accident circumstances, which also impacted Bader’s recovery from plantar fasciitis.

Posey explained, “Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field.” The statement was released by the team, as reported by MLB.com.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday when Bader’s scooter collided with the rear of a San Francisco Fire Department truck, causing a wheel to roll over his foot, according to SFist. As a result, Bader will miss the rest of the 2026 season. This mishap compounds his earlier absence due to plantar fasciitis since May 29.

Bader’s contract with the Giants, a two-year deal worth $20.5 million, does not shield him from the financial consequences of the accident. As Posey noted, the team will suspend payments to Bader while he is unable to perform his duties for the club.

Bader has experienced similar situations in the past. In 2014, while playing for Florida, he crashed a scooter while intoxicated, leading to a 19-game suspension.

Known for his defensive skills in center field, Bader is in his tenth MLB season. He started his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, later joining teams including the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, and Giants.

Throughout his career, Bader has achieved a .244 batting average, 93 home runs, and 336 RBIs. In 39 games with the Giants this season, Bader batted .170 with five home runs.
