Sara Haines Criticizes Socialism on ‘The View’
On a recent episode of “The View,” co-host Sara Haines voiced her criticism of socialism, contradicting Joy Behar’s claim that socialism is merely a buzzword for democracy and affordability. Haines’ comments emerged amid tensions between the talk show and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
The discussion focused on remarks by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt regarding Gen Z’s political leanings, especially the rising support for socialism and far-left candidates in the U.S. Behar described Democratic socialism as a term exploited for political gain, arguing that such labeling reflected Republican struggles.
“They have bastardized the word,” she said. “It is the sign of a sinking ship. The Republicans are going down the toilet, so they’re pulling out these stupid cards like they’re calling Democrats communists. Give me a break.”
Haines noted that millennials are financially worse off than previous generations, citing skyrocketing home prices and the impact of automation on employment. She acknowledged the allure of socialism as a solution but urged voters to examine the broader platforms of such candidates. Haines expressed concern about policies that might include reducing law enforcement, eliminating borders, and prisons.
“It doesn’t seem like anything can come but anarchy from that, so make sure you’re not sold on the idea of affordability but people coming in have other agendas,” she warned, emphasizing the persistent issue of affordability in the U.S.
Tensions rose when an aide for Mamdani criticized ABC after Haines labeled a Mamdani-backed socialist candidate as antisemitic. Mamdani’s political influence was evident when candidates he supported, such as Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier, succeeded over established Democrats in New York primaries.
On a previous show, co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Haines opposed the actions and statements of candidates endorsed by Mamdani. Haines pointed out Chevalier’s presence at an anti-Israel rally shortly after a terrorist attack in Israel.
“I’m going to full-blown call her an antisemite. She would proudly call herself that, trust me,” Haines stated about Chevalier.
After this claim, Mamdani’s aide reportedly vented to ABC, suggesting it could impact future show appearances for Mamdani or his Congressional candidates. An insider noted “The View” seldom engages with non-elected political figures.
In contrast, Leavitt, appearing on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” attributed the surge of socialist candidates to perceived modern laziness and education systems.
“This generation, my generation, I hate to say it, Gen Z, and those younger than me have been raised with just silver spoons in their mouths, just getting everything handed to them. That’s not the values this country was built on,” she argued.
Leavitt contended that a lack of initiative and liberal educational indoctrination were factors in the trend.
