The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has implemented a new rule prohibiting players who have been drafted by NFL, NBA, or WNBA teams from returning to college sports. This decision aligns with the Big Ten, which earlier announced a similar rule specifically for football.
Both conferences took action following court orders allowing professional athletes who had been released from their teams to return to college. This development significantly impacts the dynamics within these major conferences.
The SEC logo, often seen on courts in Nashville, Tenn., represents a strong stance against the recent trend of professional players attempting to rejoin college leagues.
The decision affects colleges such as LSU. Tigers coach Lane Kiffin recently recruited Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, two players undrafted by the NFL earlier this year and subsequently released after tryouts. This rule now places such recruitment strategies under scrutiny.
