Senator Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, has long expressed that Dr. Anthony Fauci should face legal consequences. On a recent appearance on MS NOW, Paul maintained his view that Fauci could be imprisoned. The discussion arose after Fauci exercised his Fifth Amendment rights extensively during a Senate hearing led by Paul.
Paul admitted uncertainty about Fauci’s potential legal outcomes, especially with the possibility of a pardon from former President Joe Biden. The senator believes that Fauci’s actions, particularly concerning gain-of-function research, warrant scrutiny. He underscored that false testimonies and record destruction are serious offenses.
Geist inquired whether anyone besides Fauci should face investigation. Paul refrained from suggesting criminal charges but noted that those involved owed apologies. When asked about Fauci’s intentions, Paul described his actions as misguided rather than malicious. Paul criticized Fauci’s approach, suggesting arrogance in deciding what the public should know.
I think it is wrongheaded, not nefarious. There’s arrogance that should be challenged.
Paul has previously stated on Fox News that lying about gain-of-function research, a highly disputed method where organisms or viruses are altered for research purposes, is a felony. He expressed skepticism about any action from the DOJ under the Biden administration. Paul emphasized the importance of trust in public officials.
In 2024, Paul reiterated to Laura Ingraham that Fauci’s actions should lead to jail time. He referenced past Trump administration officials who faced legal action for similar accusations. Paul’s assertions about Fauci’s dishonesty are based on discrepancies between Fauci’s private emails and public statements.
