Senator Susan Collins’ Office Vandalized Amid Competitive Re-Election Campaign
Senator Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, declared she would not be intimidated after her office in Biddeford was vandalized. The incident occurred on Monday when the words ‘Trump Whore’ were sprayed on the doors of her constituent office. The office confirmed the vandalism, and a photo of the damage was shared on social media by state Senator Matt Harrington, a Republican leader.
Biddeford police launched an investigation into the vandalism. Collins’ Chief of Staff, Katie Brown, issued a statement to Fox News Digital emphasizing that vandalism is unacceptable and the Biddeford office remains open to serve the community.
Collins is seeking re-election for a sixth term in the Senate. Her opponent, Democratic challenger Troy Jackson, has not commented on the vandalism. Jackson, the former Maine Senate president, is part of a crucial race for the Democrats who are trying to gain control of the Senate in the midterm elections.
Former state Representative Austin Theriault, a Republican congressional nominee, criticized the lack of condemnation from Jackson. He expressed confidence that Collins would have condemned such acts if roles were reversed.
Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker described the vandalism as a demonstration of radical aggression, highlighting the importance of civil discourse in politics. She urged for swift prosecution of the perpetrators and a rejection of such volatile behavior.
Collins’ Biddeford office is located near a site where a fatal shooting by ICE agents occurred in July, leading to protests against her support for ICE funding. Demonstrators had marched to her office after the shooting.
As a moderate Republican, Collins has often taken positions that differ from former President Donald Trump. Despite bipartisan attention during her campaign, she faced criticism from both parties, particularly over her confirmation vote for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Democrats have targeted her for this decision, especially after the court’s ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade.
