Shooting at Georgia High School Leaves One Student Injured

A shooting at Warner Robins High School in Georgia left one student injured. The incident involved two ninth-grade students and occurred just a week into the new school year. Warner Robins is located approximately 102 miles southeast of Atlanta.

During an evening news conference, Sheriff Matt Moulton stated, “Today a call that we train for every year happened to come to Houston County.” The injured student received treatment at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The specific nature of the injuries was not disclosed, and it is unclear whether the school had metal detectors installed.

The altercation began as a verbal disagreement between students in a school bathroom, escalating into a physical fight, resulting in one student being shot at approximately 2:15 p.m. The suspect then fled the scene. A school resource officer responded swiftly, provided first aid using tourniquets, and stayed with the student until emergency personnel arrived.

Around an hour later, authorities apprehended the suspect in a nearby neighborhood, half a mile from the school. Sheriff Moulton emphasized the effectiveness of the school’s threat protocol, which minimized potential harm, stating that “what could have been a much-worse incident was minimized to us only having one student injured.”

Houston County Schools Superintendent Richard Rogers announced the closure of the school for students on Thursday and Friday, and for staff on Thursday. Crisis counselors will be available for staff on Friday and students on Monday to support healing and recovery.
