Officials announced that the suspect involved in the Midland shooting has been killed. The incident, which began on Friday morning, resulted in one fatality and 11 injuries, as confirmed by Midland Mayor Lori Blong.
The shooting commenced around 8 a.m. in one area of Midland before progressing near a veterinary hospital. Authorities reported that a suspect was in a standoff with officers for approximately two hours following the event. Law enforcement actively engaged with the situation, utilizing armored vehicles and deploying robots to manage the scene.
“Officers are containing the situation,” stated Mayor Blong. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and our officers.”
Andrea Mendias, an employee at a nearby automobile body shop, recounted hearing at least 40 gunshots and shared video footage showing officers deploying from an armored police vehicle. The Midland Police Department released a statement via social media, noting that officers had responded swiftly to the active shooter incident on the 4600 block of West Wall Street. Gunfire was heard from the building, prompting efforts to secure and clear the area with the aid of armored units and partner agencies.
Midland, located in West Texas with a population of about 140,000, lies in the heart of the state’s oil territory. The city was also the site of a significant shooting six years ago, where a gunman killed seven individuals and injured two dozen while randomly firing in the Odessa and Midland areas. These cities are over 300 miles west of Dallas.
The situation remains under investigation as it continues to develop.
