The body of singer Oliver Tree has returned to California following a tragic helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro. This incident occurred a week ago and took the lives of all six individuals on board. Online posts on Sunday confirmed his body’s return, marking a solemn end to the June 14 crash of two helicopters. “Oliver is now back in California where he can finally rest,” the statement said.
Authorities identified the others involved in the crash as Gaspar Prim Díaz, an Argentine YouTuber known as Gaspi, another Argentine named Lucas Vignale, and three Brazilians: Lucas Brito, Charles Marsillac, and Alexandre Souza. Investigators are looking into potential human errors, possibly by a pilot or air traffic controllers, according to The Associated Press.
At 32, Tree had been touring in South America. His schedule, posted on his Facebook page, included a performance on June 6 in São Paulo.
The crash occurred in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes area of Rio on June 15. Images from Fabio Teixeira and Anadolu via Getty Images documented the site.
The post thanked fans and supporters for their ongoing devotion to Tree’s memory, acknowledging how their support is helping those close to him through tough times.
Born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Cruz, Tree stood out with his unique fashion choices, distinctive mullet, thin mustache, and positive messages. One of his Instagram mottos highlighted beauty and confidence, stating, “No matter how strange you think you look, no matter how ugly you feel, you are beautiful.”
In the music world, Tree made his mark, working with big names in pop and electronic dance music. His notable tracks included “Life Goes On,” reaching number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022, and “Miss You” with Robin Schulz, which peaked at 84 the same year.
Tributes have continued since the news of his passing. On social media, Tree’s team revealed plans for an endowment project Tree was passionate about. “Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses” will carry on his wish to spread joy, love, and art. The team pledged to fulfill his dream.
During an interview on the “Zack Sang Show” in April, Tree mentioned the grant and expressed his belief that his work would be more appreciated posthumously. “That’s when people appreciate you, when you’re not there anymore,” he said.
The Instagram post reassured fans, stating, “Your legacy will live on forever.”
